Who We Are

Do Something! is a federally recognized nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status.  It was founded in 2011 by Shaysee Campbell and Kim Watson.  We rely heavily on the support of our donors. The founding members of Do Something! have an array of educational and professional experience and have traveled extensively throughout the continent of Africa.

Shaysee Campbell- Co-Founder and President

After traveling to Ethiopia to bring her son home in 2006, Shaysee felt a strong desire to help orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa. In 2010 she earned two Bachelor's Degrees from Portland State University, one in Social Science and the other in Black Studies. During the course of her study on the adoption process in Ghana, Shaysee spent a month in Ghana in 2009 and again in 2010. It was on these trips to Ghana that the ideology and philosophy for Do Something! was born. Shaysee was able to gather more information and insight on two more trips to Ethiopia in 2012, working directly with orphanages and escorting children home to their forever families.

Kim Watson- Co-Founder and Vice President

Kim holds a Master's in International and Intercultural Conflict Resolution and a Bachelor's degree in African Studies and Accounting.  Her first trip to Africa was in 2009, which is when she first met Shaysee.  It was on this trip that they first visited Redemption Children’s Home. Aside from spending time in Ghana, Kim has also spent time in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. While in Rwanda she participated in a human rights delegation, where she now works to advocate for the refugees living in camps around the country.  Additionally, Kim worked as the lead coordinator for President Obama's pilot program called the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.  The fellowship brings bright and talented youth from Sub-Saharan Africa to universities around the U.S., where they expand their knowledge and grow their professional networks to be able to benefit their communities back home.

Hailey Williamson- Secretary

Hailey joined the team in 2016 where she not only works as the secretary but also works as the head of our donation committee. She joined Kim and Shaysee in Ghana in 2016, where she collected over 100 lbs worth of donations for Redemption Children's Home and the surrounding villages. Some of the donations she collected include school supplies and hygienic items such as toothbrushes and hand sanitizer. Hailey has visited Redemption Children's Home in 2017 and 2018 as well. Aside from her work at Do Something! Hailey is also a full-time student.

Anna Bledsoe - Volunteer

Anna holds a Master's degree in Global Health and a Bachelor's degree in Community Health.  Always having been interested in African culture, Anna's passion was further ignited when she did a two month internship in Ghana teaching health and working in a mental health unit.  After graduating from PSU, she returned to Ghana for one year. In 2012, Anna accompanied Kim to meet with lawyers about the adoption process in Ghana. Aside from volunteering at Redemption Children's Home in September 2012 and April 2013, Anna developed and implemented health-related programs in the Volta Region and also taught French part-time.
