Current & Future Projects

In 2016 Do Something! purchased a water pump and water purification system that is being installed at the orphanage. The benefits of this pump are twofold: one, it provides clean drinking water to the children and the students at Redemption Academy, and it also produces small sachets of purified drinking water.  These sachets are the most common and cheapest means for people to get clean drinking water, but unfortunately there are no facilities in the area that produce these sachets, so all forms of clean drinking water are imported in from the nearest city, which is 114 kilometers away. Because of this Do Something! supports came through and helped us purchase a moto-king that is being used to transport bulk supplies of the sachets to surrounding villages. The ultimate goal for the RCH Crystal Water Project is for the water system to eventually provide as an extra source of income for the home.  This can be done when the pump and sachet making system gets to a point where RCH will be able to start selling the water sachets throughout the community. Our next step is to purchase solar panels to ensure a more reliable source of energy where the water can be purified without interruptions during power outages, which are very common in this part of Ghana.

Do Something! is also in the process of creating a program that will focus on educating women in Africa, mothers in particular.  The goal is to learn from the women in the community to figure out what their most pressing needs are; in turn, we want to channel in on their skills to help them to become entrepreneurs so they can financially support themselves and their families.  The reason this is so important is because a vast majority of the children at the orphanage are there because their parent(s) could not afford the financial burden of raising a child.
