Volunteering

Our volunteer program is designed to take individuals to Ghana, West Africa, where they will be able to spend time working on a project at an orphanage in the Northern Region.  For the past eight years we have been working with a small, private orphanage in Damongo, Ghana, named Redemption Children’s Home (more information about the orphanage can be found under the "RCH" tab). We first visited RCH in 2009 and have made several trips back there since. Because of this we have no doubt that our volunteers will have a great time with the children at RCH as well as learn about the history of Ghana and the impact that we (as U.S. citizens) have had in West Africa.

Responsibilities of former volunteers include teaching primary school classes, tutoring, taking sick children to the hospital, facilitating activities and games for the kids, and hanging out with the older kids.

All volunteers are expected to go with a purpose.  Before departure it is highly recommended that each person devise a plan of action in order to create and experience that will be the most beneficial for the orphanage.  Do Something! can assist in organizing and executing these ideas. We encourage creativity and innovation with the ultimate goal being to create something that will be the most beneficial for the children and the community of Damongo.

In 2016 we had a volunteer collect school supplies (over 1,000 pencils and sharpeners) and hygienic items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, hand sanitizer, etc.).  The school supplies were not only handed out at RCH Academy, but also given to a school in a neighboring village.

Do Something! will act as the liaison for our volunteers, helping them prepare for their trips, which includes, but not limited to: setting them up with accommodations while at the orphanage, helping them book flights, giving them fundraising ideas to raise money for their trip and providing them with a checklist of what needs to be done prior to their journey.
